FAIRWAY CELEBRATES THREE WINS AT THE 2021 CCM CHEFS’ OWN-BRAND AWARDS

We are delighted to announce that three of our products have won accolades at this year’s Cash & Carry Management Chef’s Own-Brand Awards, which took place at The Royal Horseguards Hotel, in London, on November 10.

The winning products were: Canned (Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce), Spices & Seasoning, (Chilli Powder), and Desserts (EXCELLENCE Caramel Apple Pie).

A panel of highly experienced chefs blind tasted each product entered into the competition. The judges consisted of Andrew Green, chief executive of the Craft Guild of Chefs, Matt Owens, chairman of the Craft Guild of Chefs and development chef of Alliance Group, and Jason Gordon, catering manager for the General Medical Council.

Our delicious Fairway Assured Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce, which also won in 2019, were complimented for their ‘balanced tomato flavour, texture, flavour and consistency’. Meanwhile, our fiery Chilli Powder was said to have a ‘good depth of flavour, balance and heat, as well as being a generous portion size.’ Finally, the Fairway Excellence Caramel Apple Pie reigned supreme with its perfect pastry, ‘not-too-sweet apple, good crunchy topping, and smooth custard’.

Steve Jeavons, purchasing director at Fairway Foodservice, has expressed his happiness with the result. He said: “We are delighted to have won these awards. Fairway focus on quality, consistency and value for all our Fairway branded products and it’s nice that this has been recognised”.                                

Following the blind tasting, Andrew Green commented that the judging was ‘very tough’, because the ‘quality of products has risen so much’ over the last few years. He also added: “Nowadays, many foodservice professionals purchase own-brands not just because of their price, but because of their quality. This shows how much progress has been made in this area.”

Held in partnership with the Craft Guild of Chefs, the awards are now in their fourth year, and aim to highlight and celebrate wholesalers who are clearly investing in the quality of their own-brand products.
